Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing

Department of Community Health Nursing
The Department of Community Health Nursing at Geetanjali College and School of Nursing is dedicated to cultivating socially responsible and community-oriented nursing professionals through experiential learning and active field engagement. Students engage in a diverse array of community-based activities, including home visits, polio surveillance, nutritional assessments, and health surveys conducted in both rural and urban settings, with a particular focus on adopted villages such as Nai. The department regularly organizes health education sessions, sanitation drives, outreach programs, and awareness initiatives such as rallies and street plays. It also commemorates significant health observances including World Health Day, National Nutrition Week, and World AIDS Day, thereby fostering awareness among students, faculty, and the wider community. Educational visits to Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), Anganwadi Centers, Health and Wellness Centers, dairy farms, sanitation facilities, and school health programs provide comprehensive practical exposure to healthcare infrastructure and community health services. Students also participate in government surveys under the communicable disease prevention programs such as Dengue and malaria surveillance programs, enhancing their understanding of public health data collection and management. Complementing these activities, the department conducts journal clubs to promote critical appraisal skills and up-to-date knowledge among students. National and international webinars and workshops further deepen insights into public health challenges. Faculty and students actively contribute to action research projects focused on maternal-child health, disease prevention, and health promotion.
Department of Psychiatric Nursing
The Psychiatric Nursing Department at GCSN has a dedicated Mental Health Nursing Lab equipped with models and charts to support nursing students. We provide comprehensive training in essential clinical skills such as mental status examination, psychiatric history taking, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and neurological examination. The Mental Health Nursing department is deeply committed to fostering emotional resilience and promoting overall mental wellness. The department provides students with hands-on opportunities to develop skills in therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and psychiatric assessment. Regular clinical placements within the psychiatry wing of our parent hospital offer invaluable real-world experience. Students also actively participate in exhibitions and awareness events such as World Schizophrenia Day and World Mental Health Day to promote greater understanding of mental health issues. In addition, the department actively organizes and participates in webinars, national seminars, and panel discussions addressing emerging mental health challenges. A separate Guidance and Counseling Centre is available to support students with emotional, personal, or academic concerns. Alongside teaching and practical training, our faculty and students contribute to nursing research aimed at advancing mental health care and education, with particular emphasis on geriatric mental health, depression, and caregiver resilience.
Department of Pediatric Nursing
The Department of Pediatric Nursing is committed to fostering academic excellence, clinical competence, and community engagement among its students. The department is equipped with a state-of-the-art Pediatric Nursing Laboratory, providing students with hands-on experience in pediatric assessment and nursing care techniques. In alignment with national health initiatives, the department actively organizes Immunization Week and Breastfeeding Week celebrations, enabling students to participate in community outreach and health promotion activities. Regular workshops on contemporary pediatric nursing practices and emerging healthcare trends are conducted to enhance the professional development of students. Through structured skill lab sessions and laboratory procedures, students acquire and refine essential technical competencies in a controlled learning environment. The department also promotes a culture of inquiry and evidence-based practice by encouraging students to engage in nursing research projects focused on various aspects of child health. To ensure the integration of theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, students are systematically posted to the Pediatric Ward during clinical rotations, where they deliver patient-centered care under the guidance of experienced faculty and healthcare professionals.
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing at Geetanjali College and School of Nursing is dedicated to advancing maternal and neonatal health through skill-based learning, research, and community outreach. Equipped with birthing simulators and maternity kits, students receive extensive hands-on training during clinical postings in labor rooms, antenatal clinics, and postnatal wards. The department organizes capacity-building workshops on midwifery, antenatal education, and reproductive rights, along with national-level webinars on cervical cancer awareness, adolescent health, and safe motherhood. To foster social responsibility and advocacy, the department actively observes important health days such as International Women’s Day, World Breastfeeding Week, Safe Motherhood Day, and International Day of the Girl Child, conducting awareness programs for students, faculty, and the local community. Faculty and students are also engaged in research focusing on maternal mortality, breastfeeding practices, and women's health literacy, promoting evidence-based care and community empowerment.
